WHITLEY

Whitley Watson’s work is about the unclear border between delusion and reality: A woman prays to the Illuminati and receives her deepest desires; An incel lives in a house haunted by his own fetishistic ghosts; A woman petitions for the Christopher Columbus to be removed from Columbus Circle, replaced with Martin Scorsese and the whole area renamed Shutter Island.

Described as “narcotic” her slow-burn comedy searches for load-bearing cultural contradictions and gleefully spins them their dark, deliriously funny conclusions.

As the founder of the cult screening series/warehouse party Club Video and a collaborator with New York Television, she has built platforms to show work that is provocative, thoughtful and very entertaining.

Her work has been featured at the 2023 Just For Laughs Festival, NoBudge and Vulture. Described in Hellgate as a “multi-hyphenate comedic dynamo”, she performs regularly around the city while acting and directing.
